Creative Engineering Design Project
What did we do for the Creative Engineering Design Project?
In the Creative Engineering Design Project we designed a project that helped to solve a problem in the community. In this instance, we tried to help to solve car crashes that were caused by distracted driving.
How did we try to solve it?
We designed a physical phone dock called SiriDrive. The phone dock is voice activated and activates "Siri" which can call or text a person for you without you needing to touch your phone. We started by building it online at www.tinkercad.com taking in consideration the size of different phones and different compatibility.
Engineering Design Cycle
1. We needed to find what would help stop distracted driving from happening.
2. We found that distracted driving was the leading cause of car crashes.
3. We started by designing a physical phone dock or designing a program or app.
4. We decided on both so that it would have worked for both Android and Apple products.
5.Afterwords, we constructed a prototype on www.tinkercad.com
6. and due to a lack of time, we "made" a software to go with it. It would be voice activated and would activate "Siri" and help you not use your phone while driving.
7. Finally, we shared it to the class and took feedback.
Reflection
During the entire project our time management and group decisions were on schedule. First, we had good communication and we had brainstormed and narrowed down our needs. We worked together as a team and had good teamwork, and we came up with a plan. Our plan was to make a device that would help stop distracted driving, but we knew we didn't have time to work on the software, so we just set the idea. We couldn't build an actual working SiriDrive, so we put together a 3D model in tinkercad, a website that helps make free 3D designs. We had many problems, that we solved or found another way to get around. We could have changed the online 3D model to a physical design. Overall, we did well in our group, below is a picture of the tinkercad 3D model.
