Hat cooler project
DescriptionFor this project, we were asked to create a hand warmer to be sold at the San Marin sports events for the spectators during the game. We had to come up with the right materials and original design for these hand warmers, so we decided to think outside the box.
Our project was no longer going to be a hand warmer, but rather a hat cooler. But first we had to research which chemicals to use or what medium to put our hat cooler in. We had a few prototypes and concluded with a large freeze zip-lock outside, then a water balloon inside. Then when you pop the balloon the water will flow into the freeze bag and the react with the chemicals. The chemical we used was Ammonium Nitrate, this we found was the most commonly used chemical for temporary cooling. We chose this because we did some tests and we were able to decrease the temperature of the water 8 degrees Celsius. This was going to be perfect. |
reflectionOur project was a total success, except for a few small things. There probably could be some changes to our project if we had more time.
The prototype was hard to make, it took a few minutes to make it and it took skill to seal the bag with a heat sealer/ If we had a bag pre-made for our hat cooler, the process would have been much quicker. Because of this, the one major thing we had to fix was our prototype, since Ammonium Nitrate is reactive to the air, making a quick prototype that leaked wasn't a good idea. If we had more time, we could have made a completely air tight hat cooler for our presentation. Other than that, our hat cooler was very successful. Our group members split up the work and we each made sure that the project was very good and completed on time. |
